Dear Alice

Dear Alice

You are on the brink of turning 11 and this morning as I watched you so beautifully singing to yourself as you brushed your hair and re-arrange your dress it dawned on me once again what an immeasurable blessing you are in our lives. Part of me is afraid of you leaving your little girl years behind and part of me is so excited about what lies ahead of you. I cannot comprehend how life would have been without you. I celebrate you sweet child and embrace your kooky, sensitive and beautiful ways. I love love love you and hope you never loose your free spiritedness

love from your mama  xox

ps. thanks for all your comments and look forward to having a winner on Wednesday 21st September

  1. Enjoy the journey :D And don't worry when she hits that bit where it's just not cool to get on with your Mum ... they come back to you. Both my daughters are in their 20s now and we are the best of friends. And every step of the way (even the teenage ones!) has been a joy :D

  2. I agree with Annie. She will be a lovely young woman before you know it. Girls are such great company (I have 2. The oldest is 31. Gasp! that makes me old!) There was a time when I couldn't imagine them turning 16, let alone becoming adults. Great picture of Alice! She's a beaut!

  3. She is so lovely.

I was a cow when I was a teenager -apparently it happened overnight when I turned 13 - and gave my Mum grey hairs but we are the best of bestest friends now and I wish she lived here - Knysna is way too far away.

All that to agree with Annie and Lynn. :)

BTW - coffee in October sounds good.

  4. Wishing Alice a wonderful birthday. Having just had our eldest Rosey turn 11 on the 1st I know what you mean about racing away from all that they are now. I hate time moving on and wish I could freeze frame so much of it, but when I see how Rosey and Millie step up to each new stage without a backwards glance I feel overwhelming pride. Your Alice will stay as lovely as she is. I think when we give them such a balanced happy childhood with time and attention to show them what the world has to offer they can't fail to keep on being great. I'll get back to you and delete this if the terrible teens do turn up here.

  5. I know exactly how you feel. My two girls are 10 and 12. It is amazing to watch them in their journey to adulthood. *sigh* where has time gone?

  6. Your daughter is lovely, I have a daughter (after two sons) she is about to turn 21, how the time flies. She had a little hiccup along the way when mum wasn't so cool and someone else was, but it didn't take her long to realise that people come and go, but mum is always there.
    Enjoy all the little moments.

  8. Beautiful Alice! I agree with everything other people have said, there will be a time when the 'terrible teens' strike, but she'll come out at the other end as lovely as ever, like my own daughter did. (And my sons aren't bad either!)

  9. Another little-ish one turning eleven. I feel like I'm stuck between wanting my young man to stay just that, but to enjoy all that is to come.

Happy birthday to your little lady.

  12. How beatiful Alice is :) I have a daughter who just turned 23 in August and have many memories of when she was Alice's age. Time flys so quickly. Enjoy each and every day (both good and not so good).

Happy birthday Alice from a mom in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Hope you have a wonderful day.

  13. Wow, Alice is so grown up and beautiful! Ruby turns 11 on 1 October, they must be only a few days apart. I had forgotten. I remember them riding scooters on the veranda, so small. What a lovely letter you wrote to her, gave me inspiration for Ruby's birthday card. Lots of love xxx
