Sleep-less-ness

source
I can't seem to sleep very well at the moment and I think it's due to going into creative overload. My body is dog tired but my mind is ticking away like the clappers... full of colour, shapes, patterns, ideas, words, crazy thoughts. I had to get up and write some of it down last night so as to help calm my thought processes down {does this ever happen to you?} It felt better and I could eventually lull myself into a state of slumber. Sweet sweet slumber, such bliss.

One of the more prominent "I need to make one of those" thoughts was of the crochet kind {surprise surprise}. All inspired by a blog I discovered over a year ago, the all beautiful Resurrection Fern. Have you seen her photography? and all her amazing handmade creations? If not, do have a browse around her blog, you won't be disappointed.

Anyway, I promptly attempted to start my own pebble crochet cover which I have been desperate to try and I had some 4ply organic off- white cotton lurking in my stash. However, looking at Ressurection fern's creations seen here I think I need a much finer cotton to make a more delicate, spider web like design on a pebble from my local beach.

I think these covered pebbles she has made are so inspiring for a novice crocheter like myself, there is just something so enchanting about them

I aspire to make pretty crochet covered pebbles / stones like hers and get confident in using a smaller hook and finer thread.

Right, now I can cross that off my list from last night:

  • Resurrection Fern's crochet pebble to trial TICK = hopfully a restful sleep tonight ;0)

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy the links above xox

  1. The Resurrection Fern crochet covered pebbles are just gorgeous aren't they. I've been admiring them for a while but I need to actually learn to crochet before I can have a go. Well done with your first attempt, I'm sure you'll crack it, practice makes perfect and all that.
And yes, my headful of creative ideas often keeps me awake at night ... I keep a pad and pen by my bed expressly so I can write them down at 2 am. Next time I'm awake in the small hours thinking creative thoughts I'll wonder if you are too :D

  2. I know exactly what you mean Penelope... I actually avoid going to bed because I am too busy 'making'... and then when I get there I have so many ideas spinning around my head I can't sleep anyway! The pebble trial looks great though... is it your own pattern? :)x

  6. Oh Penelope, I understand deeply your sleep-less-ness, I as have too! Sometimes I can't sleep just because my mind is filled with making this, making that, so many inspiring stuff to make and I can't wait until tomorrow morning! I have to work so my time for crafting is very limited, and sleepless nights happen very often to me! Bad habit right? Such craft addicted we are!
Love your pebble crochet, it looks fab! Thanks for the link, will check it out soon!
    Happy day to you! xoxo

  7. I love the crochet you have been doing. So pretty and lacy. I have often dreamt (or been kept awake) thinking how pretty to make a big cover like that for our bed. But I know what I am like and love to do stuff in a colour change and get bored crocheting in just one colour. even though I know the results can be stunning in that lacy style!

I am so with you on the thoughts whirling in head at night. It seems I go through fazes where I find it a struggle to sleep because of so many thoughts and ideas. And other times where I am out like a night! Its a good idea to write down those thoughts that swirl though. As I often think at night is when we get our best inspirations.

  8. I think all of us crafty-creative people have trouble sleeping! My husband doesn't understand it and says I simply need to train my brain to switch off - he can do it with no trouble at all and in seconds of hitting the pillow will fall asleep- but then he isn't very much into creativity and craftiness anyway so I don't think his mind is all whirring and buzzing and jumping about to start with.

The crocheted pebble covers are pure eye candy. Lovely.

  10. Yes, I also have a lot of those nights, my mind will not switch off, then I will have a night where I sleep and it feels so wonderful. I love your beach pebble, it has a lovely pattern and color through it and I also love the little pebble covers.

  11. Maybe a bigger hook and a bigger stone will suit the thicker cotton?! The crochet covered stones are lovely, I agree, so lacy and beachy...

  12. Hullo Penelope, thanks for your lovely comments at my place recently. I so love your crochet rock work. I have also seen these and would love to make some to decorate our bathroom. They are part of the 'after the studies are finished' list. I am almost there. . . . . .
Have a wonderful weekend at your place and happy crafting. Yes, I know of the sleepless nights, and the only way to cure them is the sneak out to my chair and get making.

Is there a crochet pebble cover pattern or is it a case of DIY?
