Dearest friends
Now, I know it's not fair for me to say this, but I was pleasantly horrified (can two such emotions exist simultaneously?) when I found these 3 wooden hangers with knitted covers in a local charity shop for £1 on the weekend. What were they thinking with their colour and quality control, was this a seventies attempt at modern-granny style?
Whoever knitted them in the past did so in a little bit of a hurry I think and wasn't to concerned about attention to detail. Fair enough, but I have other ideas for these beauties.
After cutting the covers off I found this label for 19p, that doesn't make them too old, but definitely old enough for a makeover. Ha ha, Let it begin!
See you all soon
Maybe with a hanger or two
xox
I don't know about them not being too old - you would have to pay a darned sight more than 19p for a wooden hanger now!! Looking forward to seeing what you turn them into!! xx
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing you're hanger upcycling
ReplyDeleteClare x
Cannot wait to see what you make. I need inspiration for the 15 or so wooden hangers I found when I moved house, in the fitted wardrobe x
ReplyDeleteoo, gorgeous! ;-) enjoy the remake, looking forward to the results!! x
ReplyDeleteYuk will soon be a thing of scrumptious delights I know Penny. Have fun in the making. X
ReplyDeleteWow, what a sight! I look forward to the makeover reveal...Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteUm... I kind of like, as in really like, the awful blue and mustard (?) brown one? Does that make me weird? But I am excited to see your upcycle... 19p! Wow! Hazel x
ReplyDeleteMe too I almost like the mustard and blue too!...bet yours will be better though...awaiting in anticipation.....daisy x
ReplyDeleteThere is something about seeing covered coat hangers in a wardrobe that makes me stop and stare. It also gives me the urge to pick up my yarn and get going with my very first coat hanger cover in crochet. I could go out and buy a wooden coat hanger and what I call a decent hanger. However it is much too easy to do that and I want to find a find just like you Hawthorn so I'll wait for that moment! Meanwhile I look forward to seeing what your make overs will look like!!
ReplyDeletekeep well
Amanda xx
What a great find Penny, I bet your makeover will be gorgeous and it sounds like such a fun project.....do you know Dottie Angels hanger tutorial ? I've used it and it works great.

I've always wanted to try this. I have a weird wire hanger with yarn wrapped around it almost like someone cast on to knit a cover for it, but never got past that stage.
ReplyDeleteI think they are beautiful in their naked state. Am I wrong?
ReplyDeletehugs,
Meredith
I would love to try this with coat hangers too! Looking forward to seeing how yours turn out.

love those old hangers - hard to find but gems when you do :O) michellemadethis.blogspot
ReplyDeleteYou know what they say, they don't make them like the used too, can't wait to see what you do! :) x
ReplyDeleteDefinitely function over beauty there! But someone made something useful out of odds and ends of wool, and now you will give them a further lease of life ... proper thrifting, I like it :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been lovely catching up with your last few posts Penny. I am finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel we entered in late November and finding time to visit all my lovely bloggy friends more often. Here's wishing you a 2014 full of wonderful memories made, and recorded in your Jolly Jar x
Oh come on Penny! Don't keep us hanging about for a reveal! But I agree with you re colour schemes. 70's orange was NEVER a hit with me - one of the reasons I am a bit un- thrilled with the Vintage Movement is that people are so unselective about what they rush to collect! Looking forward to seeing what you make of them. Lxx
ReplyDeleteI love the old coat hangers but you're probably as well to remove the covers (although admittedly they're far better than anything I could achieve)... the price label's the best bit too! Always takes me back, seeing things priced at mere pennies. In fact I was pursing my lips yesterday in a petrol station as I wondered when chocolate bars suddenly reached £1 ;)
