Oaklet shawl

Wow, what an incredible real summer weekend we have had. I even managed my first dip in the sea for this year, it was that hot! With sunburnt noses and bbq smells in the air we headed home yesterday evening where I waited for the cool of the night to cast off and block my very first lacy shawl, the Oaklet shawl.

I'm not sure that my first effort at knitting lace worked out too well and I don't think it created the exact desired effect from the pattern, but I am still smiling and am happy with it. It can only get better can't it? Oh, I hope so as I think a new themed form of knitting has seeded itself in me and you may just have to be subjected to watching it grow on this here blog.

I do hope you all have had a great weekend and wishing you an even better week ahead.
See you all soon

ps. Well done Andy Murray!

  1. Your shawl is beautiful! I am just learning to knit, and would love to be able to accomplish something like this. Well done!

  2. Penny it's beautiful. Wonderful colours and it looks like the perfect size. I am still a bit confused by the whole blocking thing and tend to make it up as I go along but yours has worked perfectly. Well done and enjoy the lovely weather x Jane

  3. It's lovely, and what beautiful ocean-tinted yarn!

Seeing it on that bench made me wonder - been doing any yarn bombing lately?

So glad you had a nice warm weekend and the chance of a dip in the sea. :)

  4. It's so beautiful, Penny. I love the color, the shape, everything about it. I'm glad you had a nice weekend.

  5. The colours of the deepest ocean - how lovely
    Best wishes

  6. Oh Penny! You should be very, very proud! That is such a beautiful shawl, and I LOVE the colours. Lx

  7. The colours are perfect, it's great....well done! :) x

  8. Your shawl is a thing of beauty, Penny. It's the colour of the sea. I'm so jealous that you got to swim in the actual sea this weekend. My parents have been tormenting me with tales of spending every waking moment at their beach hut, evening swims, barbecues...there's nothing like a day at the beach when it's hot. xx

  9. Your shawl is perfect, I love the colours, the yarn, the stitches ... I want to smoosh it! x

  10. Gorgeous colours Penny! hope you are having a great week! Hazel x

  11. That shawl is stunning! Amazing colours - you clever thing you. :)

ps....I took that embroidery book by Caroline Zoob back to the library this afternoon.

  12. Lace knitting is the best! And your first efforts look fabulous to me :D

  13. Dear Penny,

I agree with Annie! Your shawl is a beauty and such a perfect colour for the next glorious summer weeks. You'll be able to wrap it 'round your shoulders when you step out of the sea. Oh, it's perfect.

Yes, I was quite timid about lace knitting too. When I learned to touch-type many years ago I liked to pretend I was playing the piano and with lace knitting I imagine I'm working my way through repeated dance steps.

I'm currently in love with Dani Sunshine's Vintage Bouquet (working on my second). Perhaps you might like it too? It's on Ravelry and, I believe, Dani lives not too far away from you.
